Ryan Clements Interview

There's something about a good interviewer that gets you to talk. This dude at Forecast Magazine in Europe that interviewed Ryan Clements got him talking about everything from a bit of what we're up to these days, to what went down at Skatepark of Tampa that broke the best bid'niss/friendship team in the world to pieces. Those events led to all of us here at The Boardr being back together and doing our own thing with our old team, minus SPoT, so we're all good and just moving on now.

I feel like the outside world might have the impression we're not doing much because there's all this stuff we're working on that we can't talk about just yet, but we'll have some updates for you guys soon. It's looking like an exciting 2014 from where we're standing and has been both a scary and exciting few months building our new, next 20-year company from scratch here. See you around out there at all the classic skateboard shindigs, plus some new ones that will be popping up. More on that later.

Ryan Clements always goes all out on his Halloween costumes. This year, he gets the Oscar for acting like a crazy Ybor City preacher. Some people get right away that it's a joke and others just can't seem to get past their anger. His Rebel flag belt buckle isn't helping matters. Check out a small sample of the amazing characters we encounter on 7th Avenue during Guavaween, including a near fight with a roofer kid bragging about his GPA.

Welcome to The Boardr

Welcome to The Boardr

Well I need somewhere to put all this silly crap I like to do like foot fetish, Nerdsday Thursday, skate photos, silly videos, and other random banter. So, I started The Boardr today after my last day at Skatepark of Tampa. The Boardr will house all the stuff I love about skateboarding plus a new system I'm creating to help people simply and easily run skateboarding events with a digital, mobile scoring system. Shortly after August, it then evolved into a full blown skateboarding professional services company where I'm partnered up with Ryan Clements. Thanks for stopping by.

An Official Bid'niss Milestone for The Boardr

An Official Bid'niss Milestone for The Boardr

11/19/2013

It's been a fun few months of building a company from scratch. Today, we set an accounting formality and officially started The Boardr payroll. The first four employees are Ryan Clements, Jorge Angel aka Porpe, Bob Freeman, and Rob Meronek behind the lens here. I wonder how long this is going to last? I would guess 2013 to infinity. Thank you for the support, thanks skateboarding for everything else, and here's to 2014! That other document Ryan is holding is another piece of important sentiment for us that I'll address in another post. I just wanted to have it in this memorable photo and early milestone.

Working in the Skateboard Industry: Chinner Moved to South Africa

There's a thousand different ways to either create or get a job for yourself in the skateboarding industry and I'm continuing these chats with people here and there on how they're making it happen. Our friend Chinner packed it up from California and moved to the other end of the world for a skateboarding job. He lives in South Africa! Crazy. He's doing local skate events and other things with the World Skateboarding organization. This weekend, he's using The Boardr Live. I caught up with him to discuss how it's going for him down there.

This week we're welcoming Asphalt Yacht Club to The Boardr Store. Instead of me interviewing them, they flipped it around this time and interviewed me. We talked about skate business and retail being tough, times where my favorite shoes must be placed in my mouth due to loose lips on the keyboard, and all the nerdness I'm attracted to like stats and reports on skateboarding.

In our regular travel crew of #boardrboys, most of us are dads. Modern Day Dads recently did an interview with Ryan about how becoming a father changes things, how to balance it all, and how amazing and rewarding it is. Here's to all the parents out there getting it done, especially the ones passing along the love of wood and wheels.
